A question about increasing field of view on fast Newtonian.

Hi Guys, I am a rank (but avid!) amateur when it comes to astrophotography so please excuse this noob question. I have a Skywatcher 200pds which I have used to take some prime focus shots of M31 using my nikon dslr/ visual astronomy. I am slowly getting into the CCD game and have been given an Orion G3 colour as a present. When I hook up the Orion to the telescope (using a 2" to 1.25" adapter) I get an extremely narrow field of view. I can only see part of M45 for example. How do I go about getting a wider field of view on my newtonian? My main aim is to photograph DSOs. I've read about focus reducers but have had some advice that these don't work so well with Newtonians- is this correct?
